At the Boardroom Apartments in Lekki, Lagos, on December 19th, 2021, The Chude & Ego Foundation held its first fundraising gala dinner.
The Chude and Ego Foundation is a non-profit committed to transforming low-income communities by providing access to world-class education and quality healthcare. Their ambition is to empower individuals to rise above economic and social barriers, channel their productivity and thrive for themselves and for their communities.
Chude and Ego Foundation was introduced to the world and its flagship project, Osnon Academy, an international standard tuition-free co-boarding secondary school in Uga, Anambra was raised for at the benefit gala.
Phyno, Timi Dakolo, Waje, and DJ Spinall were among the high-profile artists who performed at the festive fundraiser, which raised N200 million.
Osnon Academy, the first of several planned school construction projects, will benefit from the funds, and we are happy to report that the land on which the school will be built has been successfully acquired.
Commenting on the reason behind the foundation’s initiative, Nonso Okpala, founder of the foundation, stated:
“Although it’s supposed to be a fundamental right for all, so many children in Nigeria and in Africa will never get an education; while this is sad for families, it is particularly abysmal for the country and the continent – the amount of talent eroded and potential economic loss. These individuals, if given the right opportunities, could become the catalyst for the new African Renaissance, you just never know. What we intend to do with the Chude and Ego Foundation is to provide these opportunities.”
